Default Altiverb for music production?

It looks like a cool and very realistic reverb, but it looks like mostly useable for trying to reproduce a specific sound (like in movie production). Has anyone here used it for music? If so, thoughts?

Altiverb was my go to reverb for a long time. Very usable and a top notch option. Not cheap though. I bought my licensee used and that saved me quite a bit.

I've used Altiverb since version 2. The best way to describe it is natural and authentic, i.e., it sounds like the actual spaces from which the IRs were generated. The interface, although of some age, remains excellent. Its ever expanding library of IRs is the best on the planet. It's certainly expensive, and the XL version is more so.

Thanks! Does it work well for mixes with singing and multiple instruments? Or, is it better just for a single instrument, like acoustic guitar? Also, is the XL version worth the extra cost?

I suspect it works quite well with all sorts of music, although my personal experience with using it with large track counts is minimal. The Standard version is stereo. The XL version adds 5.1 surround and a higher (384 kHz) sampling rate.

I believe you can download a free demo of Altiverb and their IRs.

Know that for Altiverb you do need a paid for iLok dongle. A record of a demo download does stay on your iLok.
