Guitar Circuit Breaker for Live Shows
Does anyone have a suggestion for something to use to turn the sound off when unplugging your guitar cord and plugging the cord into a different guitar?
What is available that does this and is dependable?

Hmm...D'Addario makes a switching guitar cord called, wait for it..."Circuit Breaker."

I have seen the Planet Wave online but would like to know if anyone uses it and how good it works.
Does it distort or have any negative affects on the sound going to the PA?

I have an all-in-one effects unit/preamp/ tuner. You may find one useful or already use one. On most of these activating the tuner mutes the output.

Pretty much any tuner pedal.

I did have one (out of several) fail some time ago - D’Addario quickly and cheerfully replaced it.

I have a guitar cord with the right angle plug end having a volume control/on-off switch. I think it was Taylor branded but I don't think Taylor made it. It works fine except that right angle won't work with the Music Nomad Acousti-lok adapter. The volume control is handy on nights when I'm doing my own sound and need to change the guitar's volume between finger-picking and heavy strumming.
I need to consider the cord with the straight plug shield someone posted. Seems pricey, though.

I prefer a tuner pedal. Trust me, nobody wants to hear you tune. Ever.

Lots of pole lamps have foot switches. Step on it and it goes on or off. Simple, just insert that into the line.

I have a tuner pedal that mutes when tuning. That works. I also have a Morley A-B-C pedal that allows me to plug in 3 instruments and select whic one is going through to the amp/PA. But there's still an audible 'pop' when switching, which is why I also use my tuner pedal.

I may try a 1/4" male x double 1/4" female splitter.
I used to have one. Now I need to see if I can find it. I don't see a reason that this wouldn't work. I will just need 2 guitar cables instead of one.

As others mentioned: tuner, or even a volume pedal. Just turn the volume pedal all the way down.

If you don’t already have a Pre-amp or DI with a muting button, or a pedal-tuner, I’d recommend you get yourself a high-quality ‘silent’ cord like this one - top-notch Mogami cable, Neutrik plugs. An ‘automatic’ silencing switch built in to the plug at the ‘instrument’ end cuts the signal as soon as you begging to unplug - no pops, bangs, fizzes, or clicks. Cheaper versions are available, but my motto is “Ya get what ya pay for”…

A tuner is good, but the OP is on the right track to use a silent plug also. The Neutrik silent plug on that Mogami cable mentioned before is the bomb. It always works and is fool-proof.
I’ve tried lots of different silent plugs, and most of them will let you’d down sooner or later due to poor design or the switch making it pop out. D’addario’s works really well, but I’ve had trouble handing the cable to other people. The design isn’t as intuitive.
