Default Tommy Emmanuel- wow!

Just saw TE for the second time, and if its possible, he’s only gotten better! If you havent seen his live show, do yourself a favor, and fix that!

So true! I think a lot of folks feel they "know" TE by way of his UTube threads. Seeing him in person is a monstrous difference and what I've called "otherworldly". You simply cannot believe what he's doing right in front of you! And the sound is amazing, but also his joy, energy, kindness and theatrics are all wrapped into your evening with him.
Must see concert for sure!

Yeah, in addition to every other aspect of his live show that you mention, his sound is beyond description! How his engineers get such deep percussive thumps, while not muddying the upper ranges is beyond my guess. He is definitely a minimalist, using only a simple di and Udo amp, but I suppose the two 20 foot linear array stacks create a sound you dont typically get in your basement.

I have seen Tommy play live quite a few times, maybe a dozen times. The impressive thing to me about seeing Tommy play live is how good he is. Before I saw him the first time, I had listened to everything he had recorded and I had watched all of his videos. I thought I was prepared. But I was dumbfounded at how consistently good he is. Everything he does sounds pretty much fantastic.

I don't know how anyone can be that good. Tommy really is a living legend.

Time to resurrect this thread. Just got back from my third time seeing him - why I hesitated up until his three most recent tours, I can't forgive myself for. To give an example similar to the OP's: many groan when he asks if there any Rolling Stones fan in, because the initiated know what's coming. However, tonight's Beatles medley, straight into Classical Gas was off the charts - absolutely explosive. And his new cedar topped Maton sounds great (though I wonder how long it will survive Tommy's treatment of it!!). People also probably don't realise from videos what a good jamming partner he can be - tonight's guest was the wonderful Jerry Douglas and boy, did they have fun together at the end.

I’ve seen him a couple of times in the same small theater with great acoustics. Tommy is THE monster player among monster players.

I brought my wife (who does not play guitar) to one his shows once. She thought he was quite the showman but asked if Tommy could even tour if guitar players were not allowed in. I said "no chance". It really was that obvious that 90%+ of the audience was made up of guitar players.

I admire him sticking to what he wants to play and not selling out or to the pop star image.

Default On my bucket list!

Not sure when I can tick the box though as he’s not due in the UK from his touring list going into 2023!

April 8th....8 p.m. for me...along with Mike Dawes. This will be the fourth time I've seen him....all in pretty small venues of 500 or less folks. This show was cancelled twice from 2020......he must be making up a lot of miles right now!

Have no fear, he will be back! I was surprised they only sold tickets for the downstairs at Cardiff, but there were still empty seats. When I saw him in Bath and Bristol, I'm pretty sure he was completely sold out both times.

I've only seen him once, and I'll never forget it. Even my wife--who is non- musical and has no conception of his ability (and normally hates instrumentals) enjoyed it.
