Default speaker quality

i got a speaker from a fender super champ XD,there's nothing wrong with it, but i recently acquired a champion 30 DSP- i was going to put the super champ XD special design speaker in it, but the champion 30 speaker looks like it built really well with a heavier magnet, is there some way to test which is the better speaker, i find it strange an old cheaper amp has what looks to be a better speaker then the XD series

The speaker in the Super Champ ain't nothin special and I doubt it would be an upgrade. I have a Super Champ X2 and while it's a pretty good sounding amp, it's speaker is it's glaring weak point. I also had a Fender Frontman 25R. It had the same speaker and it was a $100 amp new. Almost any speaker that is in the $40 and up range is an upgrade. I'm assuming it's the one that's gold and brown w/"Fender special design" on it?

The input jack on the Frontman broke and since it was made of plastic (ugghh, Fender - really???!!) I just turned it into a 10" cab. The speaker sounded really flabby and I replaced it with a budget Celestion 10 30 ($40 speaker) and it was a massive upgrade in tone.

I doubt it would be an upgrade. I haven't replaced the one in my Super Champ, But I'm planning on it....

Looks alone can be deceiving. Many of the newer speaker designs use modern advances in magnet material that result in much more powerful magnets that are a fraction of the size of some of the older traditional materials.

The advances in magnet material is one of the main areas that have made combo amps and cabinets much more efficient at greatly reduced weight.
