I have the same pair of RKs. Love them both.

I've coveted a 30s Ray Whitley for many moons. If only I had $30k... Sigh.

I bought a B stock sunburst RD26 with an Adirondack top and mahogany back and sides. I was really disappointed at first, it sounded like a very average guitar. Its gotten better since then. Its weird but sometimes a guitar has to be played a lot to really start opening up. The pronounced V on the neck doesn't bother me but I wish it were a little thicker. It's very easy to play though. The best thing of all is the price I paid. A solid wood guitar with a beautiful sunburst finish for $400.

My interest in this type of company tapers off sharply after about the $800 price range. I would rather buy a used, barebones but still quality instruments from one of the more prestigious companies than a top-tier guitar from Recording King or Blueridge or any of those. Just my opinion, of course.
I agree 100%. As soon as it gets to around 5-6 bills I lose interest and start looking at used domestic offerings instead.

I always buy them used. The resale on RK isn't great. I picked up my RD-316 and my RD-328 for around $375 each. I wouldn't pay the new price on the higher end stuff but then again, I'm cheap.

This isn't necessarily the spirit of this post, as you're asking about the more recent Recording Kings, but it's as good an excuse as any to post my 30s Recording King Nick Lucas:

It's the Kay Kraft version, not the Gibson, but it's still x-braced over maple and sounds fantastic.

How about any of the cheaper 12-fret parlors they make? There are so many models I wouldn't know where to start if looking used online.

There's an ROS-06 on the Guitar Center used site for $275. Solid top, slothead, big/wide neck. Not really as parlor though (000 sized). The single 0 version is the RP-06. Other models off the top of my head are RP-10, ROS-616, ROS-606, ROS-11, ROS-16, ROS-626, RP-G6. All of these are out of production except the ROS-11 and G6.

I have an excellent ROS-10 that gets a lot of play time: all solid mahogany back/sides, Sitka sprice top, 1-3/4" nut, with long scale. It's perfect for fingerpicking and offers very nice tone with more bottom end than a typical OM

don't forget the RO-06! Pretty impressive tone and volume for such an inexpensive git.

Good price, specially since these are no longer available from RK. Just like AtomicElvis above, I was also disappointed at first with ROS-06 because it too sounded like a very average guitar. It's gotten much better after it had a year to start opening up. Now you can hardly pry it from my hands, and it has supplanted the RO-T16 as my main guitar!

I finally got to play one the other month, it was an 318 dread, I thunk that's called the RD318. It actually sounded quite good, but the neck was unbelievably thin, I did not expect the neck shape, I normally like thin necks and perhaps it's been too long since I played a thin neck but I didn't like that feel, but I thought it seemed like a decent guitar.

I own these same two RK's Love them both. They punch way above their prce-weight. The R0S-06, being a 12 fret has amazing projection for a small body (000) instrument.

I haven't played any of the 300 sries, but RKs are a solid value.
