I have small hands, and short fingers been playing for 50+ years
He's giving pretty good advice here. It's the same I've mentioned to all the people I've taught that don't have big hands. There's really nothing we can't overcome

I have a small hand and short fingers.
Also, a 12 fret short scale guitar can be an easier to play. On my guitar instructor's advice, I've been doing a similar exercise for the past 6 weeks. Except when coming back up the fret board, I place all 4 fingers on the string, and lift the fingers off the strings one at a time. The key is to go slow, making sure the notes ring out and make sure you pluck the string just right before you lift or put down a finger. I use a metronome at 24 bpm and set a timer for 5 minutes. I also alternate pick strokes. I also do the exercise again using alternating fingers, index and middle, to pluck the strings. Again I do it for 5 minutes. I'm really not seeing any gains yet unfortunately, although I do the exercises for a total of every day for 10 minutes.
