What would you order in the Gibson Custom Shop?
What would you order, money permitted, if Gibson had a Martin style custom shop? I’d probably like a Hummingbird but with more of a D28 feeling neck, maybe with a tad more width at the bridge too.

I know that Gibson has their own custom order setup called The Made To Measure Program. I'm pretty sure they offer acoustic guitars for custom builds as well as electric guitars.

I'm happy with my Custom Shop Historic 1957 SJ-200 .. I do like a high gloss finish over the thin varnish finish but if it's part of what makes it sound so good .. I can live with it.

I'd have a 1944 style Gibson banner era LG-2 with the maple plywood back and sides they used in that year (dark stained) and spruce top, sunburst finish, V neck but with a truss rod, 12" radius fretboard 1.72" nut. Perhaps built with a maple (dark stained) rather than mahogany neck.
But that is never going to happen

As for what I'd have them make me... If they could make me a hummingbird that was slightly smaller all around, with a 24.22" scale, but sounded exactly like my full-sized hummingbird, well that'd be my ultimate guitar, but I suspect the laws of physics may have to be bent. So I guess I'm happy with the custom shop i have.

strange, I thought I read a thread in the Gibson forum where some one just recently went thru the M2M program. Perhaps it was yet another resurrected thread and I didn't pickup on the dates.

Two instruments - a sunburst J-15 and a Kalamazoo Epiphone "Carl Perkins" Emperor thinline electric, both dead-stock...

I'd get a Blonde J-185 with a torrefied red spruce top, a maple neck, and ebony bridge and fretboard.

Probably just a Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe.

SJ-200, Thin varnish natural torrefied spruce over flame maple back & sides so I can channel my inner Pete Townsend and Greg Lake when the need arises.

I would not order anything. I would have to play it first. I would avoid the square-shouldered models. They don't have the magic that the best of the round-shouldered guitars have. The right J45, J35 or Advanced Jumbo would be my pick,

While I do not know about Martin, Gibson apparently will not build a guitar in any configuration you want. A guy on another forum tried to order a 12 fret L-00 with various upgrades and was told that a 12 fret version was not available but they would build him a 14 fret L-00 Legend with similar upgrades. So I am guessing if I asked a Magic 8 Ball about chances of getting say a 12 fret L-00 with raised fingerboard or a J35 with three non-scalloped tone bars the answer would be "Don't Count On It."

Probably a banner style J-45, but with the double ring rosette of the 1960s, J-35/AJ Advanced-X bracing, teardrop pickguard, rectangular bridge with cut-through long saddle, and their “Luthier’s Choice” fat neck that has 1.77” nut and 2 5/16 string spacing. Voiced to be as wet and sustainy as possible.
