Default Pin offset on bottom row of 12 string bridge.

Is there a school of thought on whether it's better to offset the bottom row of bridge pins to the right or left of the top row on a 12 string? I notice that different reputable manufacturers can go either way. I guess it would affect the break angle on the strings and it may be better to have the low e with a steeper angle to its octave, or vice versa.
