A trip to the luthier
I took my daughter’s old Martin 000x to the local luthier for repairs and set up.
When he called to say it was ready I asked if I could bring her two children. He said sure. When we got there he spent an hour and a half showing them the forms, buffers and side benders, along with necks and guitars in various stages. He was great, especially when you consider he kept a busy 8 and 10 year old’s attention for that long. I regret I did not think to take pictures. His name is Tommy Ray Teague. A great luthier and a great guy. |

Good story. Maybe those kids will be interested in leaning a craft of their own one day, even just as a hobby, if they are so taken by Tommy's work.

Tommy sounds like someone who loves their job. Nice story.

A special experience for all of you.
I wish my grandfather had brought me to meet a luthier at that age. I probably would not have waited till I was 62 to get my first guitar. Thanks for sharing that gem. David |

Thanks for sharing that. Young people really don't get a chance to see working professionals, except their teachers, at work. So they can feel lost about the wide variety of career opportunities out there. So they buy into the idea that you just go to college and figure something out. It was a great idea to bring your kids. I encourage you to continue this with a broad range of professions.

I tried to look it up just now, but will have to get my daughter to check. It is all HPL made to look like spruce and mahogany Year around 2000 Before the went with the laminated neck. |

My daughter says it is 000XM IMG_6575.jpg It has fake mahogany back and sides. HPL just looks like Formica to me, but it does sound Surprisingly OK. |
