Default Tommy Emmanuel's finger

Just came across this posted by Mr Emmanuel. OUCH! that looks like every guitarist's worst nightmare. Glad he's OK and able to carry on.

"Hello All! I want to thank the St James Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, for getting my finger back in the correct direction, this morning...My playing life flashed before me this morning as I had a stupid fall and ended up on my back ,with my finger dislocated sideways! Cut a long story short, I was worried that I'd broken it! Ambulance came and took me to emergency... Thank heavens the X-ray showed no breaks or tears...so they gave a jab..ouch! then pulled it and it popped back into place...I just tried playing tonight,, I can!!Hooray... !!! its going to be alright! phew! xx TE"

I saw that ... any truth in the rumor that he composed several new tunes with it like that?

That's painful just to look at. That happened to my left foot back in the early 90s. No break but lots of torn ligaments and tendons. Still still can't play worth a darn with those toes....

Amazing that it isn't broken. I wonder how long it'll be to heal?

Figured he would be crazy enough to use it as a capo.

There's some sick people here, but the humor is outstanding.

Love it RP...

Ouch! How the heck did he do THAT?

I know it had to hurt though. Last September I fell while mountain biking and jammed my thumb. No breaks but I did tear the tendon.

Good googily - I wish this thread had a "the following content may not be appropriate for all viewers" warning before the scroll! That's something I'll never be able to un-see.

Here's a pic of Tommy's hand after he was treated...he said he was given a shot to numb, and then his finger was pulled back into place...

That looks better. I can't imagine what went through his mind when he first saw it - I cry when I break a nail.

I'm glad he's going to recover well.

Interestingly enough, after my lovely wife took out the dogs at 10pm last Tuesday night, she was bringing in the bigger one, 110 lbs and all muscle, by the collar. When he saw the open door he took off like a flash and yanked my wife off her feet. She landed headlong on the concrete patio, stopping the fall with her nose and her left hand. My first knowledge of it was when she came into the bedroom where I was trying to get to sleep, shaking, and said, "I need your help." She had gashed the bridge of her nose and, as we found out later, broken some bones in her left hand. We spent the rest of the night in the emergency room getting her temporarily put back together again. In her case her hand is broken up enough that she can't use it at all. She got her facial stitches out yesterday and is headed to the hand surgeon this morning.

I'm glad Tommy didn't suffer that kind of damage.

Bob
