Except line #2 of the first post says:

I went to my local shop who has a pretty good selection of acoustics.

First cheapskate I've met with a Collings!

I don't know if any of y'all remember when Overstock was selling those Gretsch Americana guitars for about $100 (IIRC). I bought one and put it in the closet for five or seven years. Ended up selling it for almost $300....

I got screwed over on my Kalamazoo KG-14. It was only $10 back in the day!

Ha! Well played. There are a few things I’ll be extravagant for.

I know exactly where you're coming from T268.

I'll NEVER overpay for any guitar.

I'm ALWAYS on the hunt for my next used acoustic, electric, or bass.

If I find one the plays and sounds great, I try to get the best deal on it I can.

If the guitar plays and sounds great and is selling at market, I'm not interested at all.

I'm sure I can find another one that sounds and plays as good or better for less money .

Almost all my acoustics I've bought at wholesale or below prices.

Killer deals on good guitars can be found if you put in the time an energy to hunt them down.

So to follow up, I went down to check the RK out. Price be darned if it had the special sauce it was coming home with me. I A/B’d it against a vintage 40s 0-17. Apples and oranges, but similar size. The Martin made me want to sell stuff to make it mine, whereas the RK didn’t make me want to spend $300. So, out I walked. I nearly did start selling stuff and then I played my Collings again this weekend. It sounded so good that it made me realize I didn’t need anything else.

Go check out Bridge Caldro too. I was in there last week and they had some nice stuff. I think I probably know the shop you are talking about and I'm a bit surprised.
