Default Lexicon Omega

Just about to pull the trigger on a Lexicon Omega. Any thoughts?

It looks interesting and if I were starting from scratch I would definitely consider it. However, I can't really justify replacing the perfectly functional mic preamp, sound card and software I already have.

Hi John...
When I bought my portable rig for the studio the only thing out there was M-Box (not M-Audio) so I went with it, then the Lexicon Omega came out. If I were purchasing new today, I'd get it instead (and not because it is cheaper).

Same capability, good software, $100 less than M-Box and solid performance. It has been on the market several years, and is the ''big boy'' of the little boxes.

I have a friend who uses it regularly and it is intuitive, easy to operate, and has clean preamps.

Thanks for the info Larry. I found a little store in Miami yesterday that is offering this unit at a good price point, and I ordered it.

I would like to know how you like it as well. I'm in the same situation looking to record with my laptop.

Other similar models I'm considering are the Mackie Spike, and also the Lexicon Lambda that appears to be the Omega with fewer inputs/channels.

I had one, but returned it for a Presonus Firebox. The omega worked pretty good, but locked my system up a few times (nothing a re-boot would'nt fix), but I must say, the firebox has been working like a champ, and has better quality IMO.
