I'm ashamed to say about 2 years. But in my defence, I went through a lot of cheap electric guitars pretty quick when I was learning, then left the hobby, came back to electric 10 years ago for a year, got bored and stopped. Then 2 years ago discovered acoustic guitar as something really enjoyable to do solo, and I've had my Taylor since then. I'm not planning to sell either of my two current guitars ever (or at least any time soon). I actually just want to play now.

I still have the Franciscan dreadnought that was given to me for Christmas 47 years ago. Never did have a case for it! Lots of memories with that guitar.

I still have the Ovation Balladeer that my father bought me in 1973. I was listening heavily to Glen Campbell and other Ovation players at the time. That guitar has traveled the world with me. Still plays and sounds great.

My Ibanez Aw-40 I bought in 1980. Was my go to acoustic until I bough my Martin in 2010. It has been on countless trips, youth group camp outs open mikes and back yard jams. It is loud as a canon and still fun to play.

my first guitar----1973 Epiphone FT-130...still plays good, it's living with my son now in Colorado.
next era, still have my 1996(?) Taylor 612C Cotten Special... Going generationally further back, I still have my dad's guitar from the early 1930's...guess we just don't get rid of things. |

Ten years going on eleven. It was made for me as an artist endorsement and I love it and could never even think about letting it go. If I had to live on the street, I’d take it with me before I’d sell it to make rent.

The longest time a guitar has been with you?
21 years with my Seagull S6
Everything else is relatively new. I’ve had my Strat for 6 years, PRS for 5, and everything else is under 2 years. |

My 1967 Martin D-35 has been with me the longest. I was just playing it last night -- I still love this old guitar. It's in great shape, now 52 years old. It was purchased for me for my 21st birthday by my dad, who knew I wanted a good guitar very badly and also knew that I had spent every cent I had earned over the years to pay for my college education. So he took pity on me and paid for the guitar.
And his buying that guitar for me meant a lot to him, too. Years later, not long before he died from the effects of Alzheimer's Disease, he asked me in a moment of lucidity if I still played that Martin. I told him, "Yes, I sure do!" It's been a special guitar, full of memories. - Glenn

17 years for my bought new in 1989 Martin HD-28P. The guitar sat in my mother's closet for several years while I was overseas. I traded it in on another guitar in 2006. The guitar had been through a lifting-bridge issue with its rear-bass-side corner and was repaired free-of-charge under warranty by Martin.
