The days of the CD are numbered, indeed they may even be past! Digital streaming seems to be the way most music is distributed now. You could use Tunecore to distribute digitally.
I mostly see CDs sold at the POS at performances.

They won't be selling retail anymore but will still distribute to other distributors & retailers. I wouldn't panic. IMHO, it's still a good deal for us independents.

First place to me is your personal on-line site - as well as electronic download. Next your email/YouTube lists. Then, you could put it on Amazon by opening an Amazon store.

Neither of our cars has a CD player, but I have still been buying CDs from the folks that are trying to make gas money by selling them at gigs. Since gigs have disappeared, at least for the foreseeable future, I wonder how many smaller acts will go to the trouble of burning CDs from now on.
I think many folks just use Distrokid or similar and, as mentioned, just go to streaming. You can create CDs, but as a friend just found out (release party/gig was supposed to be this coming Saturday and I was going to record ), chances are good he'll be packing a box of CDs in his trunk for a long time. (His music is on Spotify, et al, though, which is how I've bought his album - no physical copy for me, thanks.) Even if gigs magically reappear in a couple months, I can see myself turning into a germaphobe and skipping the exchange of cash for hard physical objects that probably have been fingered and breathed on by who knows how many people...

CD Baby will continue to:
There really is no good place to sell cds anymore. The business has changed.

I've long had better luck with bandcamp for physical sales - you ship the CDs, but they handle the money, digital downloads in multiple formats, etc, and Teja and I decided to skip CD Baby for our new release, and just use bandcamp.
I do get sales of older CDs thru CD Baby to amazon and some others, but it's now too small to be worth the effort. Can't recall the last time I had a sale directly thru their store, so it's likely not a big loss that they're stopping. CD Baby seems to be headed for digital distribution/streaming (as is the entire market), and there are lots of other competitors to consider for that scenario. We've decided to use distrokid, but we have no experience with that yet, so I can't say how that will work out.

That is interesting to hear Doug. I assumed you all were going to use CD Baby for the streaming services, i did not know there were other options for that. Ill have to check out distrokid assuming my second album ever gets finished.
I super rarely sell physical cd's and I don't gig much as a soloist, so Ill probably just do digital for the next release. The times they are a changin.

After reading Doug's thoughts I added a physical cd option to my Bandcamp album, and just made a sale! Proof that it works. Doug, I owe you commission.

There's something I really enjoy in holding a recording in your hand, reading the liner notes, referring back to it from time to time. And long ago, I discovered that there is a lot fo great music out there you would never know about if you only listened to the one that first attracted you. So many recordings introduced me to new favorites, ones I would have otherwise never heard - because i listen to all the tracks on a CD, multiple times. Only then I might be more selective (but probably not).
