Default Favourite Acoustic Amps

My favorite is my Elite Acoustics D6-58. I love everything about this amp!

My second favorite is the one I use only on larger and outdoor gigs: my Schertler Roy. At 50 pounds it is really heavy, but if the Roy can’t handle it, you probably need to hire a trucked in PA system!

Third is my Yamaha THR30iiA. This is the perfect practice and living room concert amp. In spite of it being my third pick, it is probably the amp that gets the most use.

Ive had a few and agree with kingston
In the eliteacoustics one of the best.
Acoustic amps for me are a luxury. Above a pa
System. I wanted one for a small pa when a larger
Pa is not needed or overkill. I had high hopes
For aers compact 60.it had a great guitar sound
Really stellar. The vocal ch left alot to be desired.
I wish they put a mid cut on that ch as well.
I sold it and bought the aer d-68.than upgraded
That to the mk2 features. That was a great small
Pa and everything i wanted in an amp that the aer
Lacked.we decided to sell our home and now
Are full time rv folks. I needed to sell alot but
Retained a small pa. I still plan to gig on the road.
I actually kept a qsc cp8 and an elite acoustic
mixer. This is more compact than the d68 and
Sounds great. With more power. A dedicated pa imho
Sounds much better and is more versatile than
Any amp.

Been saying that for over a year. Have an early yrs Fender Acoustasonic (The big heavy 70lb PRX 370). AWESOME by way of sound, definitely more for being in house though. Also really versatile for your semi hollow bodies.

That said 2 quick opinions: The Genzler AA Pro by far IMHO opinion best sounding, feature packed Amp ever tried for 1k and under.

Those who complain about 25-30 lb amps being too heavy make me giggle. (Ribbing in jest of course).

I think in terms of vocal reproduction, the AER is very dependent on the tone of the vocalist and mic choice. I’ve heard other singers sound great/indifferent/so-so through them, but for my vocal tone with my D7 I would rather sing through my Compact 60/4 than anything else. I *LOVE* it. I’ve sung through some of the best house rigs in the world over the years and I’m happy as a clam singing through my C60/4.

I can understand and hear how some vocalists don’t jive with them though, and a mid cut would make it a more universal proposition-something that Udo Roesner rectified with the Da Capo 75 I believe.

Genz Benz Shenandoah Stereo 60 - great for both guitar and vocals. If I were to replace this, it would be with the newer Genzler combo.

I agree with the above suggesting the Elite Acoustics unit. I have used all the above amps and now I use the Elite Acoustics product and will never look back. Incredible sound better than Bose, light, easy to carry, but its the sound, the tone that makes this one shine. Combine this with a nice preamp and its done.

If I could only have one of what I own or have owned, it would be the Fishman SoloAmp, but it's a PA

If I weren't gigging, it would be a smaller amp from AER, Shertler, etc. I once had a Schertler David; it was really good. I have a Loudbox Mini on loan and I'm really liking it enough to make the list. Everything I've played through it sounds really good.

I've owned a lot of the amps mentioned here and a few that weren't, some I've owned twice,.. and sold again.

So, what acoustic amps do I still own? The one that has stuck and that I've owned it over six years is a Schertler Jam 400, the best I've owned hands down.

I have another rig when I don't want to haul the 400 and it's a Fishman ToneDEQ preamp into a QSC CP-8.

I have a small ibanez Troubadour T-20 with Reverb and Chorus and for my Martin OM-18e in a small room it sounds great.
Now I have another guitar equipped with k & k pure mini and I am thinking about the Fischman Loudbox mini. I'll see if I'm still with the Ibanez or not.

I love my Genzler AA Pro. It sounds great on it's own, and even better with the extension cab.

I did similar thing. Ran the line outs to 2 JBL EON G2's, 400 watt self powered each. Set this up in a 3 car garage space, set at pretty low medium volume levels...sounded sooooo cool, full. Love this amp!

I have a Boss Acoustic Singer Pro that I like a lot. It's never left my guitar room, though, so I've never really pushed it. But it has a good natural tone on both guitar and vocals. It also has a bunch of features that I'll probably never use, like a looper. Plenty of power without being too large or heavy.

I got it used but like new from Dave's Guitar Shop.

It replaced a Roland AC60, which was also a very good amp. Very simple, which I liked.

Back in the pre-pandemic days I did solo gigs with any of the following:

* Fender Acoustasonic Jr DSP

* Fishman Loudbox Mini

* Fishman Loudbox Performer

* ZT Lunchbox Acoustic amp

All of my acoustics utilize a K&K pup.

FWIW, the Fender had the best vocal channel of all of them by a wide margin (I use a Shure SM-58 mic). Guitar sound was only "acceptable" though. Still, with it's tilt back legs to get sound to the back of the room, it was a winner for solo gigs. Same size and weight as a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

The ZT Lunchbox at just 10lbs was so easy to carry and had plenty of power for most gigs. Acoustic tone wasn't up to the others though, and so I sold it on. That said, I have a ZT Lunchbox Reverb in my stash that I use for electric guitar and it is INCREDIBLE!

Between the Fishman Mini and Performer, the Mini is all I needed for 95% of my gigs. Both sound excellent on vocal and guitar channels and that's what I will be using if the pandemic ever ends.

LR Baggs Synapse Personal PA. Is it an amp or a PA speaker? It's both and has many features that make life easy for an acoustic musician: good power with full, smooth, and wide-dispersion, 48-volt phantom power, good-sounding reverb effects, good EQ capability. At 39 lbs, it may be a bit heavy for some players but IMHO its sound makes up for its weight. Now sold at the lower price of $1299.
