Default Washburn HB-15TS veneer repair question

Hi all,

I purchased this Washburn Jazz box guitar in a fairly bad state. (See this link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/QR1JRNY3Ai3ZvbUK7)

The Neck heel had separated from the body and the veneer was badly cracked and in some places separated/lifted from the body on the back. The top has some cracks which are not as severe as those on the back.

Is there a way to soften the lifted veneer before gluing? I was thinking of using hide glue for its ease of cleaning.
