Just to save you some time as you test locations, the middle of a room is almost always the worst place in the room to record.

Yep, it will be the back 3rd. Trail and error testing has commenced. Finding the best spot for the mic on an acoustic guitar is hard enough. But i was wondering if there is a way to identify a zone within the back 3rd that will be more likely to produce a better (neutral) sound. Every room is different but i suppose i will just start in the center of the back 3rd and go from there. Keeping the mic/guitar setup consistent to detect or not a more favorable sweet spot. Like should i play into the back wall diffusers or play out into the room?

You can make an argument for either method, but in the end the decision comes down to trying both and seeing what sounds best because every room is going to be different.

Throw a good set of closed back headphones on, pan to mono center, and move around and listen. Instant feedback on what sounds the best for a particular mic, where to position yourself in the room, and how to position the mic.
