Funny, while you replied I was adding the comment about bass players to my post.

Yeah, but don't touch it. Don't even LOOK at it.

All Rainsongs are pretty loud. I find myself laying off a bit when playing in the living room and trying to blend with others, like my wife on flute or a guitar soloist. If I don't hold back, the soloist has to plug in to an amp.

I cannot answer the question directly - it has been years since I've tried a JM-1000. But I do own an X30 and my buddy has a classic DR-1000 dreadnought. He like his DR-1000 better than my WS-1000 for its characteristic dreadnought voice, but he really likes my X30. He has maybe played it more than I have, and I have to make sure it doesn't leave when he does..

For the last outdoor ukulele club jam, I chose the X30. Flatpicked and with that strong bass, I could set the rhythm for a group sitting in a large circle in my back yard. People spread out and sometimes we cannot hear each other well enough to stay together, but X30 helped. The other option is hauling out an amp and my U-bass.

That's good to know. My thoughts exactly. Not a fan of the Nashville burst but a vintage spruce look, that would be appealing.

Regarding "loudness"
I would say, true test would not be from the prospective of the ones playing, but the ones listening.
