I've recently discovered that my Yairi FYM60HD really comes alive tuned a half step down. It becomes richer and more resonant. Doesn't hurt the fretting hand either. My other guitars stay in lowered open tunings pretty much all the time anyway, but sometimes I'll lower open D to C#.
