You’re probably right Fred, but I seem to recall that both sets sat silently in Bruce’s woodlocker until he put the thing together...

So he picks the strong silent type.

Had an opportunity to stop by Bruces on Sunday, and spent just a couple minutes with these 2 as well as the Amazon thats going to La Conner. They are all amazing guitars - each one has some little difference in tone and response that makes choosing one over another quite impossible. What you're left with is physical appearance, and even then, I would not be able to choose a favorite. I lean just a bit towards the look of the multiscale, probably because I don't have one, but then again, koa is possibly my most favorite wood, and even though I have a couple, this one is beyond anything else in tone and appearance. I've played quite a few of Bruce's builds, in a variety of styles and woods, and when he says these may be amongst his best, he is not at all wrong.

Once delivered, I imagine we won't be hearing from the owners for a while - if one of these landed on my doorstep, there'd have to be an intervention to get it out of my hands to do much anything other than play -

The plot is twisting like a Thomas Pynchon novel...

I see you have a Cumpiano instrument. Nice! I have one of his cuatros. What a crazy, wonderful instrument the cuatro is!

Both guitars, slated to arrive tomorrow, have instead arrived today. I assume both recipients have been struck dumb, as expected, for I have heard nothing critical either way so far.

I have spent the day shaping the neck of Tim's JB-15, one of my very favorite uses for time. . . when it goes well, which it has to this point.

The Schoenberg got my rendition of Schoenberg's interpretation of Martin's 1930 OM thinking, while the JB gets a very slightly fuller than average version of my "double elliptical". Average would be 53/64" thick at the 1st fret, where 52/64" feels slim to most people, and 54/64" feels full. These are tiny differences, yet for some people this amount can be a deal breaker. I am not one of those people, but I aim to please.

I will post a fuller response in a bit. Short feedback is that the L00 is a masterpiece. Amazing.

The guitar is wedged and, additionally, the depth is more narrow than even a Martin OM. Bruce thought we could still get the bass, balance and resonance that he wanted. Boy, did he ever.

I will get to spend a bit of time with it tomorrow but Friday is a PTO day and I will get to really dig in.

Thanks Bruce!

Struck dumb but fortunately not deaf because this koa Schoenberg is also amazing. I only got to play it for an hour or so last night but I can tell already that it fits right in with my other OMs in exactly the way I hoped. It has as a direct, fundamental and warm tone, plus that quiver a great guitar has when you play a big chord or just sit and let the harmonics develop. The trebles are strong but not strident.

My eyes are still pretty good, too--the koa is just some of the most lovely and beautiful wood I've ever seen. The guitar just glows with Bruce's varnish, the goldish fret wire and the earthy tones of the binding and rosette.

There will be much more to absorb, of course, and I'll get back to you on that.

It's beautiful, Bruce! Tim

I got the JB-15 into finish before the end of the day, which realizes my artificial goal nicely.

Check out the true color of this tuc:

Has anyone tried to find the joins in the 4 piece back yet?

Hey, I'm trying to play the koa OM over here; don't distract me with the other one!

... as I'm now curious enough to want to know where the seam is. Hopefully you will give us the correct location if I'm wrong

I can’t actually see it, but you are very close to correct, perhaps exactly right.
