Sure it wasn't a "requinto" or similar instrument? Latin and especially mariachi ensembles use these small instruments that are built pretty much like a standard classical guitar.

Gold Tone makes a 6 string uke you tune like a guitar, maybe it was one of them.

There are plenty of 3/4 and 1/2 size nylon string guitars out there, usually inexpensive...and sold for use by children.

Yup. My daughter's got one. IIRC it was about fifty dollars at Creative Kidstuff. But she plays piano and flute now...not guitar.

Knew fella once who could play the flute.
Didn't want to, but had to learn after being hit in a shotgun accident. Nasty, but a least he has a decent wee business now hiring out as a lawn sprinkler. Did somebody say, "Tangent?" |

Small guitar?
Of all the "smaller" instruments I've seen, the only one I'd ever consider is the Collings "baby."
Sweetest thing ever. |

Hi, My guess would be a Yamaha Guitalele. Here's one in actionhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r3Dw...eature=related They have a 17in. scale length with a 1 7/8" nut width. Tuned A to A like a requinto. Inexpensive ( less than a Benjamin with gig bag) but not a cheap toy. Plays easily and is well intonated. They have only recently become available in the states. Again, not a toy and would make a dandy travel guitar.

Not a baby price, however.

I am willing to bet that was a Yamaha GL1 "Guitelele"... the ultimate classical travel guitar.
