My playing is amateur at best but I like mine. Ignore the vocals and you can hear a couple of samples below.

I have a pair, and posted a shoot out with them here some time back. They're pretty similar to KM184s, and sound very good on guitar. Look for some of Anton's videos and recordings, he's been using them for a while and sounding very good.

Several people on this forum use the M300s. I bought a matched pair of these mikes several years ago. They are very good mikes. One recording I did with them way back when in an un-acoustically treated room:

You will likely find a few other recordings on this forum using the M300s done in an acoustically treated spaces.

They are an excellent buy new as well as a fairly priced used pair in good condition.

Your guitar playing and recording sounds very nice. Way beyond amateur for sure...and pretty hard to ignore the voice as you suggested...Great sounding voice you have!
Did you you any compression on Gefells? And what mic did you use for your voice on "She is Love"

Absolutely Beautiful Playing Rick-Slo...did you compose that tune?

And here is one of the Video Comparisons that Doug has done. This was super informative to myself...

Thanks. Yes that is my composition. I have fifty plus recordings on my youtube link below. Youtube kills some detail resolution
but not too bad. Most are my own compositions.

I do not use compression. I mainly use some equalization and some reverb.

Truly very nice composition and excellent playing. It is hard for me to listen all the way through to many people. I listen to 20 or seconds...like it...but not enough for me to continue. This captured my attention all the way through.
I will have to check out your youtube videos.
Are you still using the Gefells? Or are you now using something else?

Last several years I have been using Gefell M295 mikes (they are not as sensitive to proximity effect and have a higher resolution of detail).

I owned a pair of 295's for a short period of time. The High end is magnificent..very detailed as you say.

They're in the group of highly regarded sdc mics.

Thank you Knives. My Gefells go straight to an Apogee Duet and into Garageband on my iMac. I think there is some compression because I just used the Garageband acoustic guitar presets and tweaked to taste. Same Rode NTK mic on both songs.

I really like the M300 and used it for some years. Used KM184s for a long time and started looking for more mellow sounding trebles. To my ear the M300 sounds more like that and I was very happy. After finding a pair of old KM84s they did not find much use.

Here are some videos using the Gefell M300 for recording acoustic guitar or in mic comparisons.

I'll make a personal comment...in no way trying to hijack the thread. Everyone hears things differently.

A few years ago I had a stereo pair of M300's and a stereo pair of Beyerdynamic MC930's and was able to A/B them for a week or so. I play only fingerstyle acoustic, have a fairly light touch and no percussion etc. In the end I kept the MC930's and those are the only mics I use. In my setup, I found them to be a little less bright on the high end, and a bit sweeter in the midrange.

There is a price difference, but that had no impact on my decision. The Beyers just worked better for me.
