Default Pono Guitars

aloha AGF forum readers.
We appreciate all who have bought and play Pono Guitars.
Due to retirement there have not been many models available lately.
One of my sons, Andrew owns and operates Hawaii Music Supply.
Through the years he and his staff have been using their studio to photograph and video all of our Pono Guitars.

Andrew and my other son Noa have decided to take over production management. and Andrew will now handle all marketing and sales of Pono Guitars. So soon most models will be readily available.

Pono Guitar models:
L (12 1/4") 12 fret, slotted head
O (13 1/2") 12 fret, slotted head
OO (14 3/8") 12 fret, slotted head
OM (15") 14 fret, solid head
Dreadnought (15 5/8") 12 fret slotted head and 14 fret solid head
GA Grand Auditorium (16") 14 fret solid head

Body Woods: Mahogany, Acacia, or Rosewood
Top Woods: Engelmann Spruce, Sitka Spruce, or Western Cedar

Nuts and Saddles: Bone
Bindings and Purflings: solid wood

Default Pono Guitars

we have had several requests to continue 12 string models.
From our small L size, to Dreadnoughts, and Grand Auditoriums, we have made 12 strings.
The next batch will be our OO 12 string. Good compromise in size. Somewhat of a parlor, but at 14 3/8" body width, and 12 fret, it has a beautiful full tone.
OO12-20 Mahogany/Spruce
OO12-30 Rosewood/Spruce

Will you be building any nylon string models again?

I have several Pono steel strings, but never managed to find a nylon before the drought hit :-)

Thanks,
Gary

For several years we did make a nylon string. It was what some refer to as a "hybrid" since it was not technically a "classical" guitar. Nor meant to be. Nut width was 1 7/8" fingerboard radiused, and a cutaway body. We wanted it instead to be a nylon string guitar for steel string players.
we still get requests for this model, and if there is enough demand it will be put back into production.
N-10 Acacia
N-20 Mahogany
N-30 Rosewood
Top wood: spruce of cedar

John, any idea on pricing and availability date for the OO-12 rosewood? My OO-20D needs some company. Also, any chance of a cedar top option vs spruce?

This is wonderful news, I have been dealing with Andrew and HMS for years, excellent service. You guys have no idea how much money one can spend on ukuleles, especially custom built Koolau tenors. I will be sure to see Andrew about a Pono guitar
