Default Vegan alternative to hide glue…pretty cool

This violin maker developed an animal free alternative to hide glue that he says is also acoustically superior and puts less stress on the wood. I wonder how difficult it is to re-create, if it requires a similar heating process to use, what the cost would be for the builder, and if it makes it’s way into the guitar world.

Surely once the horse is dead we might as well make use of it. It's not as though people are actually killing horses to make glue!

Well, at least the vegans are driving innovation.

Can we guitar owners claim that we are recycling wood?

I don’t know if the article is saying, don’t use hide glue. I think he is saying he might have developed a new glue (be it vegan or not) which seems to have better acoustic properties.

Not actually killing them for that...probably.

This from https://boostuphome.com/tools/adhesi...-is-hide-glue/ :

Hide glue is an adhesive of animal origin. It’s obtained from collagen, a protein molecule. This protein is found in animal hides or skins and is mostly made of horse hides.

You aren’t supposed to eat your musical instruments.

Not "vegetarian"...."vegan".

Webster's Definition of vegan
: a strict vegetarian who consumes no food (such as meat, eggs, or dairy products) that comes from animals
also : one who abstains from using animal products (such as leather)
