Default Pick Guard on a Rainsong...

I'll say right off the bat that I'm a fan of putting pick guards on my Rainsong guitars. However, the placement shown on the Rainsong below looks a little weird to me. Was it chosen because it happened to be in the parts bin, and that's the only way it would fit? Does its placement actually mirror normal strumming patterns? Is this a new pick guard placement that I'm too old to appreciate?

A regular Martin OM sized or OOO size pick guard works perfect and looks right. This is just weird.

Looks like someone found a carbon fiber pickguard (or a "carbon fiber-look" printed plastic pickguard), and thought, "let's slap that on this guitar, because it's carbon fiber!" But it clearly isn't a good fit. It should rotate down further, but because of the bridge plate, it can't go any further, so it's just crooked.

That looks like one of the old AWS Rainsongs? No weave or uni fiber showing, anyways.

It should be trimmed and rotated.

I actually have a CF "pattern" guard on my WS3000 from the previous owner. Looks much better than the above.

No offense intended but that pickguard doesn't look good on that guitar IMO. If it were me I would replace it.

Me too - that's just not very attractive, even though functional (probably covers the normal strum pattern better). I have a clear vinyl pick guard on my WS-1000 but only because I freely let people test drive it to experience CF for the first time. I don't need PG's myself. I have not put a PG on any composite guitar since that one.

Lately I've been using clear weak adhesive pickguards off of eBay. I cut the sound hole with an Xacto compass. I've got them on my dreadnought and parlors. Here is a pair of pictures of the dreadnought with and without flash. RP might recognize the guitar.

Of course a little worse for wear after a few months and many gigs...

Default tone

I had a Rainsong Shorty and put a small cut and shaped clear pickguard on it. I did notice that it numbed the tone slightly.
I traded up and now have a Smokey and am hesitant to put a pickguard on it, but the area underneath the strings gets very buffed, and I use Maguires polish (recommended) all the time to keep it clean.
Does anyone else have similar experiences? I'm hesitant to put a pickguard on the Smokey, but I don't want to damage the guitar face over time.
