I have a 2003 Taylor 710, and although I don't have the pictures to prove it, it's definitely a lot yellower than it was in 2003.

I’m not a tan guitar guy. I like keeping my guitar as new. My guitar top is brighter than my future. I feel alone now.

Seagull S6 Coastline Spruce slope shoulder dreadnaught. Only a year old but lives on a stand so it's on its way to honey

I can't give a before and after shot, but this guitar I've had for 40+ years and I think she has a nice patina.

Hi Robin, I saw "Elzic's Farewell" in your signature so I had to give it a listen to. Great job! I love that tune. I'm not sure if you know but AGF member Wade Hampton Miller won the US dulcimer championship a few years (decades) back.

Here’s my 2012 Taylor next to my 2015 Yamaha...quite a difference in top color. Love the deeper patina as they age. The one on the right must be a 100 years old...

I have noticed my Larrivee JCL 40th Anniversary Edition has tanned over the years. The one of me playing by the fireplace is from 2010, the one outside by the pool is from this year. Seems to sound better as it tans too.

It's funny, I just noticed the difference between the two pics I used in this thumbnail
On the right is my Kostal MDW just hours old, on the left you can see how the guitar has taken on a beautiful golden colour. Fun! All the best Michael

Although I do not have photo history to compare, I remember my 2011 Furch G25 being of almost identical top color as my 2018 OM is now.
Here are two photos made under same lightning conditions, my trusty iPhone, no edits. I love that almost orange tint on G25. 2018 Furch OM-LX (consider it "before") 2011 Furch G25-SR ("after")

Am I the only one who notices the different lighting conditions applied in these comparison photos? A photographer could take two shots of the same guitar on the same day and by using different lighting techniques, make one top appear a much different colour.
I'm not saying that spruce guitar tops don't darken over time, but these photos are not very scientific. |
