Please! Just keep the nauseating music going. Every time you interrupt it to remind me I'm still on hold and how important I am, I drop whatever I'm doing and grab for the speaker phone. But alas. I'm still nobody, and still on hold.

One time I was on hold for awhile, listening to their hold music, and the song "The Waiting is the Hardest Part" by Tom Petty came on!

LOL! They probably did that on purpose. Should've followed up with "Don't Do Me Like That" and "You Don't Know How It Feels." Or maybe they do?

What got me (working for the Federal Government) was calling daily to east coast trouble desks from the west coast. They were already open for 2-3 hours by the time I clocked in - and way busy. 30-60 minutes was the usual hold time.

What I completely didn't get was the same song for years (obviously a recorded loop) that featured varying intensities of loud static, like driving through a forest and listening to a distant AM signal fading in and out. It HAD to be intentional. I wonder how many thousands of times I suffered through that insulting noise.

Seriously, that was halfway up my top-10 list of reasons for retiring when I did.

It is very frustrating when one is on a web page looking for a contact number and they redirect you to the FAQ page. Then at the bottom it says, "If you didn't find the answer click here." So you click on it and it sends you back to the page you are on.

I remember calling a customer of the computer company I used to work for back in the mid-80s. I was in Massachusetts; the customer was in South Africa.

The hold music was "The Camptown Races".

I kid you not.

There’s nothing worse than having to listen to commercials the entire 40-60 minutes IMO. I just went through that fiasco with Home Depot. From now on I’m shopping at Lowes.com which has a “chat” function. They’ve gotten with the times.
