Heel or no?
Any experience out there with heel-less Emeralds? How does the lack if heel impact the sound? Anything noticable? Looking at an X20 mod.
Thanks, Bryan |

My X10 doesn't have a heel... but, they didn't make any of this generation with a heel so nothing to compare it to.
I've heard that any difference in construction has some (perhaps imperceptible) difference in tone. My X20 has a heel - I haven't noticed any difficulty in the reach, and the tone is great.

I have a heelless X30 and an X20 with a heel. There's nothing wrong with either design IMO but I think the heelless design is clever and it gets my vote. I doubt either design would have an impact on the tonal properties of the guitar and if it did it would be so subtle to not worry about it.

Same here. I'm not sure that I have a preference either way on Emeralds, because both seem to work well for me. I can reach as far up the neck as I need to and easily. On my Blackbird Lucky 13 not having a neck heel is a real benefit. I can reach up to fret #17 comfortably even without a cutaway, because there is no neck heel in the way.

Heel No!
Definitely love the lack of a heel on my X10 level 2. That neck is such a pleasure to play. Next on my list is an X30 and I will ask for the X10 neck.
