What are you going to do with your lottery jackpot winnings?
Title says it all. For me, it will be to buy a house in Charlottesville and give some money to close relatives (son, brother and cousin). Winter on Sanibel Island. Oh yeh, I'll hang onto my Emerald X20-12...

I’ve already saved whatever the cost of a ticket is - I’m gonna buy another set of Sunbeams with the “winnings”…

I’m not playing. But if I did win, the first thing I would do is hide the ticket. Then I would have a meeting with my accountant and lawyer. I’d set up a charitable trust and then hire a security team. I’d probably have to find a new house in a more secure location. Etc. Etc. I probably wouldn’t claim the prize until everything was in place.
Then, I’d try to do some good with all of that money. I’ve thought about it many times, and after a certain dollar figure your problems are multiplied exponentially. Rick

Mrs. Tinnitus and I have discussed this. So as long as we're fantasizing...
With that kind of money to throw around, we'd probably have a second home for the winter months (it rains a LOT here), and maybe a third where it's cool in the summer. And a relatively nimble Class B motorhome to lazily make our way between them. Seriously, nothing ostentatious in either category - just handy/available when we wanted to wander. Stuff we could share with our loved ones. With a couple decent guitars in each place, I suppose I'd make a point of slacking the strings on anything I wasn't planning to play for a few months. |

I would just retire. I am ready for it, but can’t yet afford it. Then I would go live on a beach.

I don't do lotteries but since interest rates have plummeted I have put some cash in UK "National Savings Premium Bonds.
You "can" win £1 milion (£1,000,000) which (tady equates to 1,216,960.00 USD. I bought this house in 1980 intending to stay no more than three years, but i met this skinny woman with a delightful 10 year old son, and I kinda got stuck here. That little boy is now 51! I chose to live in this lovely little Roman City near the coast because it was small, full of history and so much quieter than my last two places. Today it is a sprawling mass of new house developments mostly built on flood plains, and with a totally inadequate road system. I've tried to move twice but it is such a complicated and expensive process. If (haha) I got that 1st prize, I could walk out of this place and pay someone else to take care of all the legal stuff and pack up and move all our forty years of stuff. Where would we go? well we would have to take baby boy and his wife with us and they have kids all over the place and , and , well it gets so complicated. There are some lovely little villages around but you don't get much for a million in this area but maybe a 4th bedroom and a little quiet. It would also need to have a good internet connection!

Keep a very low profile. Travel flying first class. Stay in nicer hotels. Would not mention lotto to anyone not even friends, neighbors or family. Especially family.

I had to look it up - jackpot for Mega Millions is $1.1 Billion! Unreal.
After Federal taxes and selecting the cash option will net a single winner $408M. State taxes differ (and some states don't tax) so a winner will walk away with $338M to $408M (source: https://www.usamega.com/mega-millions/jackpot) I'd buy into part ownership for an NHL team. |

Put aside enough to cover taxes.
Add to retirement savings. Talk to my wife about what she has in mind for this windfall (we don’t talk about such fantasies, because we don’t play the lottery). Give some to charity. Maybe put some into real estate, perhaps a condo on a beach. Maybe a small condo/ pied-a-terre in a great city where there are great museums and great music performances and great restaurants. |

I will finally get serious about learning to play like a rock star. That might take up a sizeable chunk of it, but it's a commitment I'm willing to make.
