Does the Fender SFX amp have enough gain for a ribbon mic?
As the title says, I am interested in the Fender SFX amp and want to get a passive ribbon mic. Does this amp have enough gain for the amp or do I need something else?
Thanks, Dan |

If it doesn't you can use a Cloudlifter.

I was hoping that other than the mic, I wouldn't need to buy anything else. If I am just micing inside the house, do I need a gain booster?

I will have more than enough volume for a ribbon mic - you can play small to med. rooms with out a PA with that amp and gets the job done - home recording, unless you live in Buckingham Palace, with that amp should be no problem. In fact, be sure to find out what kind of SPL levels your ribbon mic can handle for close amp mic'ing; too much amp volume will blow out the ribbon.

That is correct. I want to mic the guitar with the mic plugged into the amp (Fender SFX new version). I heard passive ribbon mics don't need phantom power but the amp comes with 16v and cant be shut off. I am thinking of the Cascade Fathead original version. I don't really want to have to buy anything else.
Would I be OK just plugging in to the amp, and I will get mic volume? Thanks, Dan |
