I try to eat it as much as possible. The cheapo in me recoils from pricing sometimes, but it's totally variable by store, item, and time of year. Given my focus on nutrition and health it's a fairly glaring blind spot that I don't pay more attention to this and that I'm rather penny-wise and pound foolish in this regard.
The dirty dozen list is a good reminder, thanks for that. I eat a LOT of tomatoes, potatoes, and apples. |

I like to buy organic so long as it's reasonably cost-effective... just makes sense to me.
I won't buy organic is the cost is 2x the norm; some items (berries, especially) I will only buy if they're organic (they still put some NASTY stuff on strawberries, for example). It's a shame that the cost of "becoming organic" is prohibitive for many smaller growers...

Sorry if I seemed contentious.
Animal welfare and abuse is a passion of mine so I speak strongly when the topic comes up.

All I know is that Bell and Evans organic chicken is the best I’ve ever eaten.

I can buy a dozen “Jumbo” eggs for $.56 or buy a dozen large “organic” for $4.50/ dozen.
Regular Bananas $.55/lb. organic for $.68/lb. I’ll buy the bananas but not the eggs. I always buy free range chicken breasts because they are plentiful and inexpensive. Same with anything else. If it’s reasonably priced, I’m in. I don’t care about the other reasons to buy organic so don’t waste your time informing me.

You may find it interesting how we have designed our new riding arena/barn to be both sheltered and outside . But I will start a new thread about it ,rather than distract from this one

We buy as much organic stuff as is possible. Not only produce and meats, but clothes made from organic cotton, etc.
I understand that many folks can’t afford to do what we do, and that they can’t make the time to grow their own produce (which might not be up to the standards that would allow such food to be certified organic, but it is usually a couple of steps in a better direction than what is available at the typical grocery store, especially for the dirty dozen). But some organic foods approach the cost of non-organics, and can be had by most people for whom the principles resonate. |

Ironic that every farmer that I know loves it and hates it .
Let's start with the hate part . They hate it because they consider it to be fake . They love it because they can charge more for their products . My personal tastes lean towards synthetic food . |

In the UK, to be classed as organic it does have to be genuinely free-range (must always be outside whenever conditions permit), minimum 60% grass-based diet, and they can be vaccinated, and you can treat them antibiotics when they need it, but you can't give antibiotics it to them routinely. Back to the OP, we buy organic pretty much everything.

Or have they have determined that the air, ground, and water, is already so polluted that attempts to grow organic are futile ?

OK everyone, let's keep this thread civil. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, you don't have to agree, but the forum is to remain civil and this thread has seemed to spark many strong opinions on both sides. Thank you.
