"pull off " question
I'm relatively new at playing but I have noticed that when trying to play a pull off to an open string I am not achieving a lot of sound. Is this a characteristic problem on acoustic ? Or is it simply poor technique ?

You have to kinda snap the string sideways a little when you pull-off to make it ring. Usually just catching the edge of a callus as you pull-off will do the trick.

Practice, practice and practice, and it will come. Then you'll be suprised how easy it was after all.

Thank you for your help. I think I understand the technique involved. I agree the key is practise, practise and more practise!!

I've always been amazed at how simple things are that once seems nearly impossible. Playing time does wonders.

Like any technique, it will take some practice. You might also try to keep your finger perpendicular (as much as possible) to the string just before you pull it off.
I also agree with Noflatpick. A callous with an edge on it is helpful.
