Default Hard Times Theme Song

I was watching Hard Times, a Charles Bronson movie from 1975, the other night and this was the theme song. I do not know the title of the tune.

I am using a J.W. Green fiddle and Martin D-18

Very cool! It has that "way out West" feel to it. Enjoyed it......

Hi Charlie,

Beautiful playing of a haunting song!

I was looking around the Web trying to find the song's title and couldn't. The movie credits listed on various websites list Music By: Barry DeVorzon. The song may be an amalgam of some old-time country tunes put together by Barry with some musical twists of his own and that's why it sounds familiar yet a bit different too. I may rent this movie and I'm sure they'll list some name for the song in the film's closing credits.

Regards,

SpruceTop

I watched the credits and I did not see anything about the music. Once during the film The Old Gospel Ship was played. This is the same hymn used in the original Dillinger Movie.

I believe you might be correct in that it is a compilation of OT tunes. Here is the opening in which the I got learned the melody from, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meH0LSnaGaQ

Note the diesel locomotive, not invented in 1933.

Excellent job, Charlie. I believe the song is "I Am A Pilgrim."

Yep, that's it. Byrds did it on Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I seem to recall Doc Watson and Merle Travis doing it as well. Penned by the prolific "traditional".

Default Hard Times Theme song!

I suppose not many people will look at such an old post, but there is no way that the theme song on Hard Times is "I am. Pilgrim". My wife has pointed out that she thinks it might be "Fair and Tender Ladies" or a variation of that. So I have accepted to be that. It matches a lot closer to the chord progression!

I agree that it's not I Am a Pilgrim although they are similar. I'm going to see if I can find Fair and Tender Ladies to see if that's closer. Thanks for the tip. I've been trying to learn how to play this haunting song for years. I'm not that good so I have a hard time figuring it out myself.

Update: I just checked out "Fair and Tender Ladies" and the version I found doesn't sound even remotely like the theme of the movie Hard Times. Perhaps there are other versions but the one I found has no similarities at all. The search goes on....

That's already been answered in this zombied thread: It's Barry DeVorson--he who also composed "Nadia's Theme" (AKA, the opening theme song for the television soap opera "The Young And The Restless") with Perry Botkin Jr. and "In The City" with Joe Walsh.

The opening credits to "Hard Times" list Barry DeVorson as the person responsible for the film's music (his Wikipedia page now spells the name, Barry De Vorson)

That theme song for "Hard Times" is of course neither "I Am A Pilgram" or "Fair And Tender Ladies," as speculated in this zombied thread. It's an original composition by Barry De Vorson.

Two Chordify versions of the "Hard Times" theme:

Chords synchronized to a video of an individual playing the "Hard Times" theme on a guitar--corresponds to the more up-tempo arrangement heard over the film's closing credits

Chords synchronized to the "Hard Times" theme played in the opening credits
