Adding Second Mic to Boom
Hi. I have a mic stand with boom, and want to hang a second mic off the boom arm to record acoustic guitar in stereo (with mics about 18 inches apart).
I can't find a boom with 2 mic attachment points, or a suitable clip or clamp to attach to the boom arm. Has anyone found a simple solution to this? My solution of sticky tape is not going to last too long! Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Ed. |

Several ways to skin this cat.
I like to use multi-mic "bars" to create mic arrays. wide and flexible: http://www.buy.com/prod/on-stage-my7...ngId=121820011 sturdy and well made: http://www.zzounds.com/item--MUPMY500 A mounting system, expandable: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...FYeDQgodrzIAyw Very flexible and sturdy: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/305049.html Using these can be enhanced with a coupler that gives a variety of angles: http://www.amazon.com/On-Stage-MSA95.../dp/B0002E54YQ And these folks also make a "bar grabber" with a posilock clutch: http://www.onstagestands.com/catalog.../grp/GRP000141 That last item might be the one you're looking for. Hi, Fran.
Thanks for the comprehensive list of options. My first thought was the same as yours - the On Stage sidemount looks ideal. I am currently trying to locate an Australian source. Your advice is really appreciated. Thanks, Ed. |

Have bought the On-Stage Posi-lok side-mount as you suggested. It is heavier than expected, but is just the shot for the second mic. Thanks for your guidance! ED |

Two thoughts occur to me. I generally use my clamp-on on the main stand rather than the boom. And be sure your boom is arranged so it tightens rather than loosens when the mic end starts to droop.
