Default Mastering Files

Hello all,

I'm looking at a mastering service for my tracks and have a question regarding files. They will send me mastered copies in MP3 format at a low cost but an uncompressed WAV file at considerably extra cost.

My question is, if I receive the MP3 file can I import that into the Logic Pro software I have and simply re bounce the file myself at uncompressed WAV or once they master it in MP3 do I loose the ability to enhance the quality?

Hope someone out there has a better understanding of the procedure than I do that can help!

Thanks

It's about money and control. They just don't want you to take the mastered files mid stream and run. No, you can't up quality a mp3 back to wav file quality my converting a mp3 back to a wav file - and I would not be too surprised if the mp3s they send you are not at one of the higher available bit rates.

Thanks for your answer, the MP3 bit rate is 320 kbps. I will just pick and choose when id like to purchase a WAV file as I came to the conclusion that mastering is indeed a tough job that someone else is best doing for me!

Good, the 320 bit rate gives you a better idea of the final wav product sound. Good luck with your project.

Thank you, i'm reasonably impressed with the 320 MP3 so look forward to the WAV impressing me even more with a bit of luck!
