I like Reaper as well. Cones with a lot more user friendly plugins than it used to as well...

the only problem i see with reaper (which i use), is that the waves plugins do not officially support it, so if you have some nice reverb or compressor of theirs for example, it is not the easiest thing to make it work in reaper.

That's true, I gave up on using any of their plugins, never could get them to work.

I also use Reaper. I've browsed through the manual, but it's faster to just ask Google how to do something in it when you have a question.

I have Sonar X3 Producer and Adobe's Audition CS6 on my computer. Don't need anything else.

I started with Mixcraft 5&6, moved to ProTools 11, and now I'm using Reaper. Mixcraft was easy, but ahead too much latency for me, and after a year I started having glitch issues and sound problems. Got PT11 free with my ElevenRack, once I figured it out(not too hard) was digging it. Decided I wanted something easier than PT that was just as good, switched to Reaper. Very happy with it.

Yes, Waves does not support Reaper. Most of the Waves plugins in the Platinum Bundle (v 9.xx) work with Reaper, some don't work exactly right and some don't work at all.

I have Waves Gold, the only plug ins I've tried so far was the amp sims. That worked. I'll have to experiment now. It'll suck if they don't work.

I find Audacity very easy to use. There are lots of great effects plug ins for it, and editing is straight forward and easy.

I use Cubase now and I'm not switching (because I'm comfortable with it and have lots of on-going projects).

But if I were just starting out... or for someone else just starting out, I would definitely say Reaper. A lot for your money. Probably all you would ever need.
