Default Eli Manning retires

Eli Manning announced his retirement today. Your thoughts - is he a Hall of Famer?

I never thought he was a great QB but he has those two Super Bowl MVPs. Here's a stat I heard recently ... Eli has 0 playoff wins outside of those two championship runs.

Your thoughts?

I’ve always been biased against him since he played for my favorite college teams’s rival.

That said, I do respect him and think he was a good QB, but not great. He was always steady and stayed healthy. I know he won 2 Super Bowls, but they were somewhat fluky and led by a great defense that shut down some really good QB’s on those runs.

I don’t think he’s a Hall or Fame level QB, but he’ll probably get voted in because of two rings.

He waited a couple of years too long to hang up his cleats.
Tom Brady, take note.

Sure had some good genes. It was fun to watch him during those Super Bowl runs.

Big Giants fan here. Eli was maddening to root for at times. That hang dog expression after a bad play!

As much as I love the guy for beating the P****** in one of the 2 greatest upsets in the history of the Super Bowl, I have to admit his career as a whole probably falls short of HOF status. His big game and big market cred may get him in anyway.

More importantly he represented his team, his city and his family very well for a long time. He will be missed.

He's 2-0 vs Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. I think that's enough for the HOF right there...

I'd say he'll get in for sure. Played in NY, two SB MVPs, and that magical last name. Might not be on the first ballot, although I can't think of any other big names that'll be up for a vote in five years. Who else retired this year?

Next year will be the first season since 1998 without a Manning under center. We have a few years to wait until we see if Arch (Cooper's kid) can become the fourth NFL QB named Manning.

Good old boys club of NFL will put him in hOF due to his last name, and he doesn't come close to deserving it. Kurt Warner-------there's a QB.

Greatest show on turf and so exciting to watch. Amazing considering Kurt came from nowhere.

The difference is that TB12 won two more rings when people were saying he should hang it up. Eli didn’t do much after that second SB win against the Patriots back in 2012. He will get in the HOF, but he was an ok QB, a mere shadow of his big brother.

I think the two Super Bowl wins will get him into the Hall of Fame. That said, I've long wondered about the criteria for the pro football HOF. Meaning, just how stringent are the requirements, and is the actual voting process based more upon statistics or popularity?

There isn't any criteria. It's just opinion.
