Default amazon tablet help

i got my grandson an amazon 7" tablet for his birthday, he is 14 but autistic, his social ability is that of a 4-5 year old, he does like to download pre-school apps and watch them, problem is im kinda dumb on this stuff- i registered the amazon tablet but then seen where there are charges everywhere, so i de-registered it from amazon, so the question is, where do i find apps like this that will work on an amazon tablet- apparently it gets google, email, and standard stuff like that- john

I believe Amazon has a Kindle Fire store similar to the Google Play store, and if I understand the post correctly I think the young man was accessing it. Again, if I'm understanding correctly I think setting up some parental controls on the device &/or the account it's registered to may be the simplest solution.

The few times I've had to talk with Amazon I've been pleasantly surprised by how well it went and I'm sure they could help you with the settings that would help you provide the right amount of access for him.

Amazon does have an app store similar to the Google Play store. Many items are free but some cost a few bucks. Here is how Amazon suggests setting it up so you can still access things when you need to but your child can't accidentally order things:

You can also "root" your Kindle and add the Play Store - but that's beyond the abilities of most users.

You don't have to root a Fire tablet to use Google apps. There are four files to download and install in order. Then you can access the Google Play store and all the apps you're used to, such as maps, YouTube, etc. So much better. The Amazon app store is dismal compared to Google. A Google search will provide the file names and a location where you can download them. It's quick and easy and works great.

update- total PITA, but i finally got the google account mgr, framework, and play store on, i got the playstore icon but it doesnt open, i can reach it though now that google works, i have to go that way, type in playstore, and open the link, sorry to say but my grandson wont understand all that- anyway- thats only three files, the fourth file was --- use google play services for a 2017 fire 8--- mine is a fire 7, so maybe this file will open the icon?- really, this amazon tablet kinda stinks, its limited and totally amazoned, i learned a lesson though on what to look for in a tablet-- oh yea, i didnt try option 2 because the info said its more advanced and difficult, with my limited skills, im lucky i got this much done

You do need all four files for things to work correctly. I've used them on both a 7" and a 10" Fire tablet. The Amazon tablets are cheap and robust but severely chained to Amazon.
