Wooden Guitar Case Repair
The vinyl covering on the outside of my Martin case is starting to wear through in a few spots. Any suggestions for what to patch this with before it gets worse? I was thinking about some liquid electrical tape.

First thing a Canadian might say is, "Head on over to Canadian Tire and pick up some duck-tape!"
You can do that, but it sometimes begins to leave a sticky mess. I have sometimes used titebond 3 (waterproof) or epoxy to seal roughed off spots of the vinyl.

Eastwood Auto Restoration Supplies used to sell a vinyl repair kit. It was a liquid vinyl in a bottle with a small brush, a surface prep and a texture overlay.
I don't know if they are still around but Google will. Good luck! |

A Permatex vinyl repair kit may work too. Auto parts stores have them. You apply the caulk like stuff to the area and place a pebble grain sample on it from the kit. A heated iron heats up the little disk on a dowl and you rub that one the back of the fabric. It transfers heat and kind of cures the stuff and puts a pebble grain texture into it. It actually works not bad on vinyl. I fixed a motorcycle seat this way. It will most likely be somewhat semi-gloss as I recall but then its only been 1986 since I used it!!!

The liquid electical tape seemed to work pretty good. Blends in at least. We'll see how it holds up.

The liquid electrical tape worked well, but it did come off eventually. Now I just used some super glue and cover it up with black enamel paint. Doesn't blend in quite as well, but it's hardly noticeable and it'll last forever.

I have also used ABS glue which is cheap and black for other things and bet it would work well for this...
What you did is a nice looking repair !
