Default Is a jam calendar possible?

IMO: Not to add another job to the moderators who already do a great job of babysitting the throng

But, it would be nice to have a simple year round calendar whereas we could tack in a location where a jam would be so as many of us are traveling on the spur of the moment we could get in touch with the person who posts jams to see if we could join in for a pop in visit to meet other AGF members and listen to the fun.

While the event posts are is great it's not easy to review so many threads and posts to zero in on an event for a certain time frame.

Other members have been in our local area during our McJam and didn't know it was that weekend until they returned home. Summer months are tight, but there are times it would be nice to pop open the AGF and say, "Hey! That's only 20 minutes from here!"

Would that be possible? Can that happen? Does this make sense? I don't know if this is even doable. Just asking.

I want to second this request. It would not only be a great thing for travelers, but it would also be a great way to find jams in your local area. As it is right now, it's hard to find a jam. A listing would make it so much easier.

Default Can I third the request?

Would like to see this too. My wife and I host an old timey gospel and bluegrass jam in Westlake Oh. monthly. We've had visitors from all over, some recent folks dropped in from Ontario while they were in town. We've got at least a couple of snow birds that join us in summer and fall too.
We actually live in a 55 and over apartment, and have arranged smaller jams there several times over the past year or so as well.

Some sort of way to promote more "getting together and playing" would be great... so many folks will write a thread about "how do I find someone to play music with...?", and a lot folks chime with "good" advice...

But, the truth is, it ain't always easy to find folks who play and want to make some music... I have often thought it would be great to "greet and meet and play" with some of the other AGF members in Oregon. I've posted a couple times about anyone wanting to get together, but to no avail...

Making ANY SORT OF TOLERABLE MUSIC with another human being is one of the finsest things life has to offer!

I’ll take the idea to the mod team.

I think that's probably a decision for our owner, J.R. Rogers.

Personally, I think that's a great idea! Why would it be a problem?

This is the Internet.
This is 2018.

People who list expensive things for sale on Craigslist have fallen victim to crime when they meet the criminal posing as a buyer.

Many guitars are expensive things, and a collection of several in one place would be tempting to a criminal and his buddies. No?

IMO security is a legit concern, and liability maybe another concern for a website facilitating such events.
But as always, every person must evaluate the risk and make their own decision.
IOW, YMMV.

Mary et al,

Our admin has reminded that a calendar already exists to which anyone can add an event. It is accessible in the top tool bar labelled “Calendar”.

I think and even better request is for a place for folks searching for a playing partner, band member or vocalist. As we know CL is just awful these days. As music forums go this one has more sub topics than most, so I understand there are limits, but I hope ownership will give it some thought. Thanks.

Heyyyyyy .... I'm such a rookie and quite ignorant in so many areas.

You did good.

THANK YOU for sending the link that way. I will add that to my signature line and can now suggest that others do the same when they (we) want to share upcoming events on the calendar.

You’re welcome! By the way, our forum admin, Jeremy, has also added a sticky thread with link to the calendar in the Events subforum to draw more attention to it. Hopefully this will promote greater awareness and use.

There is a web site (forget the name, sorry) that is exclusively for this. I have a couple of mine listed there, long ago, but since they haven't changed much so there's been no need to revisit it.
