Hi Sakurius, Yes, I understand that pilsener/lagers are less flavoured, and yes, the fuller, rounder tastes of real ale (or similar pale ales in bottles, are an "acquired taste" but they don't need to be drunk too cold, and they don't need to be that alcoholic. 3.8 to 4.5% ABV. I find that those stronger than that are too sweet for me, and I have no interest in getting drunk.

I strongly recommend that you try them out.

It looks like Guinness, but Guinness is chilled and comparatively bland, whereas well kept ale is merely cooled at cellar temperature, ie 12-14°C, which allows the full full flavours to develop. I’m off out into Durham City later, to the Victoria, a lovely Victorian pub with open coal fires, where the following awaits . . .

Took a stroll down the hill into the city yesterday for a slurp. The stout was so nice I may pop out later to make sure . . .
