Default If it makes you happy (Sheryl Crow) Aston Origin mic

This was a demo recording that I made testing out my revamped home recording space. Over the past few weeks, I have been experimenting and added room treatment and bought a new mic.

Both my guitar and vocal were recorded at same time with 1 mic (Aston Origin) .. Using my Spire Studio recorder... adding the Spire's Warm Space effect. Then I took the file into Reaper where I did minimal adjustment .. EQ (High pass) and very slight (8ms) channel time delay.

Personally, I think it's one of my best "off the cuff" recordings.. meaning I didn't do much preparation .. Just placed the mic in front.. let the Spire auto set levels and hit record.

This is so excellent on many levels. Great tone, great singing, simple, honest, raw.

Fantastic cover.

Agree with all that he said! Great singing and playing! Was it a Gibson J45 that you used?

Hey Cool555 - Thanks so much for your comments.

Yep.. my '08 Gibson J-45 with Adi top .. I stopped looking for guitars after I found it a couple years ago.

Thanks Jake for your reply and picture! Beautiful guitar and sounds equally beautiful during recording. The tone is lovely. No wonder the J-45 is well-loved in AGF!

Very nice job Jake. It sounds good with a reasonable balance between voice and guitar!

Thank you for taking the time to post Glenn!

In order to get the correct balance .. I actually had the Single LDC Mic situated at chin level .. angled slightly downward and about 12-14 inches away from me.

1 Mic is nice and easy set up!

I love this song and you did it justice. Very nice guitar playing and singing. The recording was wonderful, nice balance and clarity. The only problem is now I want a Gibson J45.....badly.........even more than I did before

You do need to look into Cat Stevens, your voice is well suited to his songs.

Thanks Dave!

This song is special and for some reason it touched me a while back.. Which pushed me to learn it... I'm glad I did it "justice".

All the positive comments are very much appreciated.

Okay .. So what are suggestions for Cat Stevens songs ?
