Which Collings would I be looking at if...
I wanted something similar to my Taylor X12's? 14 frets to the body, and I need a cutaway option.
I like the 24 7/8 scale and do not want to vary too much from the 1 3/4 nut and 2 3/16" spacing at the bridge. I'm also not sure how Collings neck shapes compare to Taylors. Please educate me. Thanks in advance! |

Something with a c shaped neck like an SJ, C-100 or C-10. C-100 would be close in body size and could be found with a 1 3/4” nut. Cutaway Collings are rare but of course you can always order.
I have had all these Collings and the Taylor. You need to play them but my favorite is the C-10. |

Closest equivalent is probably Collings' new 00 14-fret model. The OM is similar in size as well, but typically has a longer scale length.
Collings doesn't make nearly as many cutaway guitars as Taylor does, and the ones I've seen have typically been their OM shape. A cutaway guitar with the specs you like may have to be a custom order. In my experience, the Collings neck has more of a V-shape than the lower-profile, fast-playing, C-shape Taylor neck. The Collings guitars also typically feature glossy necks compared to the Taylor necks that seem to have a matte finish more often than not. |

I prefer the Collings neck to any Taylor I've ever played, and I'm primarily an electric player (LP, Strat). Although they're gloss finished, they're nowhere as "sticky" as Gibson acoustics.

As a former owner of several GC Taylors, I think the OM with a short scale option would be the closest to a 14 fret Taylor GC.

Except for the neck profile. Again, the C-shaped neck is closest and the soft V neck on the Collings Os and Ds will be noticed by a Taylor player.
If this is important to you do not buy sight-unseen. |

I own a 12 fret Taylor 712e 1 3/4" nut and a Collings C10 1 11/16" nut and switch between the two with ease. Agree the C profile on my C10 is far more similar to my Taylor than a Collings modified V, which is most common on their OMs.

A helpful tip I've learned is the "Haircut Headstock" or asymmetrical style is the C shaped neck profile whereas the squared off headstocks are the V shapes.

I sure wouldn't exclude the Collings that have the Mod-V necks. They are, for me, remarkably comfortable, and I have no issues going from a Taylor to the Collings Mod-V. I would echo the recommendation for a short-scale OM with a 1 3/4 nut. Hard to find at a dealer these days, but certainly available to order. |

Holy cow!
Thanks all, will re-read a couple more times but I think I know what to try and track down now. New isn't an option, so I'll be searching the used market. Short scale and neck shape top nut width and body size for me. |
