Default NEW D’Addario X strings

So, has anyone tried out this new line from D’Addario. The X strings come in an array of gauges.

They are in the upper price range at $15 a set.
But, they boast a 4 times longer life than non-coated variations.
Please chime in with your experiences.

Thank you very much.
Talk soon.
Alan

They sound as good as the EXP, but feel different. I beta tested them and really liked them. I've bought several sets and they're in my rotation of strings I like to put on my guitars, which includes D'Addario Nickel Bronze, Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze, and I really liked the D'Addario EXP, but I think they're being phased out.

I believe you're referring to the new XT strings? I really like them, though the current BOGO on EXP has filled my coffers for a good bit. They're smoother than EXPs on the fingers, but the tone is pretty darn close. They MIGHT be a hair less warm, but that could be all in my mind.

I don't know if I'd pay $15 on the regular for them...especially with a backlog of EXP right now, but I do really like them.

Does the coating make the overall thickness bigger? Since it is coated. I'm a huge fan of their ej16s

I find they sound almost as good as their un-coated siblings, but at 2 to 3 times the cost. They only last about 1.5x (at most) the time of the un-coated versions so they don't make sense for me.

I mostly use 80/20 bronze. I like the sound and the feel of the XT, but the EXP has a longer lifespan, in my experience.

Peace

Who has the BOGO deal on EXPs?

I have a set of XT 80/20 13's on my old D-28 and like them a lot. Might have to buy some more.

I too was a beta tester and so was provided a free pair. Perhaps I didn't give them a fair chance but didn't like them at all. They sounded dull to me and the feel of the wound strings was harsh compared to DAddario PB lights that I'm used to. As you can see above, many other folks like them so YMMV.
