Default Yamaha EQ and Fishman Loudbox Artist

I am really new to amplifying my acoustic guitar so please bear with me. When it comes to setting EQ on my amp should I set the EQ on the guitar preamp flat or all equally in the middle or should I just experiment until I get the sound I want? Have not even unboxed yet but will do that now.

Yamaha has many different preamps. I can glady give some advice if I know which Yamaha guitar you have.

Thanks. I have a AC3R. Around 18 months old or so.

Does it have the huge rectangle preamp or the 4 dials?

I always start with all eq set flat. Then I will tweak the frequencies that need to be cut or boosted. I would probably leave the amp flat and tweak the eq on the guitar preamp.

Does flat mean 12 O'clock?

Since it has SRT with system 66, the settings that worked best for me on my AC3R were:
Bass at about 1 o'clock
Mid at about 2 o'clock
Treble at 11 o'clock
Mic switch on one or two
Focus/wide on wide
Resonance at 12 o'Clock
Blend at about 1 o'clock

Into a PA system with everything set flat, that gave me a nice big sound plugged in. I was always looking for more bass and slightly less highs with mine, and I found that bumping up the bass alone didn't quite do it. I found that bringing up the mids really helped to fill out the sound.

On the Fishman, I'd set all the EQ dials at 12 o'Clock and go from there.

Happy playing.

Thanks. I am going to plug in right now and give those settings a shot!

Played for a few hours today. It sounds good to me. I was adjusting EQ on the amp and not really sure what to do with the preamp settings. Thanks for the tips, it's much appreciated. I may try a little more experimenting but those settings work great for me.

Glad to hear it. Have fun. That AC3R is a great guitar with one of the best preamps on the market.

Thanks. The only thing I have not tried yet on the amp is there is a knob that controls the tweeter. I am guessing how much tweeter is being used? I may play with that and see what happens. I actually just realized it's there!
