Default Road Trip to a Wishbone Ash show

Last Tuesday my lovely wife and I traveled to Richmond, VA, to catch the closest stop on the U.S. tour of my old influences, the British guitar band, Wishbone Ash. In case you don't remember, WA was one of the earliest proponents of the dual-lead guitar sounds that became so popular in the '70s. They are still at it, playing everything from festivals with audiences of tens of thousands down to packed-out small venues. The place I caught them was one of the latter, and it was fun to get a chance to chat with the members of the group after the show. I've written up a review, HERE, in case you are interested.

Awesome. That brings back great memories. Myself and a good friend were both budding guitarists in the early seventies and we were into the dual guitar thing of Wishbone Ash and Allman Brothers, among others.

I can remember a summer trip in 1974 to the Oregon Coast, and we were singing "Blowing Free" at the top of our lungs, me playing an acoustic while he drove. He has passed, yet this memory is sharp and wonderful.

Saw them in my teens, opening for Robin Trower.

Live Dates is still a very favorite!

It is for me too. My best friend in high school, a guy from Glasgow, UK, introduced me to Wishbone Ash via that album. IF you haven't already, get a copy of the Beat Goes On Records release on CD. Former bassist Martin Turner, who now owns a studio, went through and remastered it really nicely. It's HERE on Amazon.

Excellent review as always Bob!

I saw them on a PBS concert show in the very early 70's. When they played "Blowin' Free" I was mesmerized. Ran out the next day and bought the vinyl album Argus. I was about 16 and worked part time at a toy store while attending high school, so my discretionary cash was extremely limited.

I remember Andy Powell and his Flying V as well as Ted Turner's Strat.

I had forgotten all about Wishbone Ash. I remember one of the DJ's on WPLR in New Haven was a big fan, and this being back in the day when DJs used to actually have some say over what songs they played, he played them fairly often.
