Here's mine

It has the most amazing top with lots of stripes. How will you grade a good mahagony top? I would go with the most crossgrains over the top. Ain't a fan of hog tops but this ain't an ordinary one. Im crosssing my fingers its Cuban mahagony

Got my own hog topped gs-mini about 4 weeks ago. It's a pretty top with some nice chatoyance, so I'm thinking of taking off the pick guard before it develops a tan line. It was only in the shop about a week as well before I bought it. Any hints about the process besides, warming it up with a hair dryer and running dental floss under the surface to break the adhesion, naptha/lighterfluid to remove adhesive residue...anything else? Thanks in advance.

Great looking Hog guitar! After the pick guard is removed, it can easily be mistaken for a Mini Koa!

I’ve never removed a pick guard before. Seems like what you said above is correct.

Yes you should! U can always get another pickguard from Taylor if u need one in the future. Dental floss or a credit card will work as well, avoid too much heat!

My GS Mini upgrades include a tortoise (fake of course) strap button and a JJB 330 pickup. It sounds decent run through my Zoom A3 into my Fishman Loudbox Pro.

Still figuring out strings for it. It came with Elixirs, and I took them off and put on Martin Retro Monel strings (which I love on my 000-15m). I felt like the tone got a little too dull, so after a week or so went back to a set of Elixirs. Tension seems a bit higher with the Elixirs. I'm gonna try different strings on this one until I find the ones that I love with it.

Any suggestions for the next set?

Actually maybe a bit...it was already -for its size- surprisingly “dynamic”, including volume..... I picked this one from 2 others (which also sounded very good), but of the 3 this one “grabbed me” the most.

Have you tried D’Addario EXP 16, 12-53?

Looks better without the pick guard! I like the woodgrain pattern of this Hog.

Just sharing 3 unique looking GS Mini Koa’s that I’ve played when I visited the Taylor guitar centre about 6 months ago. First 2 was (no longer is) on sale and the last one belongs to a friend. I just love Koa top Minis...
