Interesting. Hadn’t considered that. So maybe he goes North beyond the Wall, falls in love and lives happily ever after...

Am out of the country (in Brazil) and finally got my VPN connection to work tonight. Liked the episode up until after John killed Dany. After that it seemed like they were just trying to wrap up story lines, and was very anticlimactic. Would definitely be interested in an Arya spinoff.

I came across an interesting take on where the final season went wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0mncEl4nVU

To summarize: when they dispatched the night king the whole series went off the rails. Had he won in Episode 3 and the good guys retreated from Winterfell to go to King's Landing with the Night King and his forces on their heels things would have played out MUCH differently. The author of this video also discussed how character arcs could have been resolved successfully instead of being disregarded just to wrap things up dramatically.

I agree. They made the Night King and his army such a big threat for so long, and just when it appeared all was lost, Arya kills him and they all disintegrate.
Kind of like in that stupid Star Wars movie when they are battling the droid army, and at the last moment, the droids are all deactivated.

That left a big gap to fill, and the battle for Kings Landing wasn't enough to sustain the excitement and momentum. With so many characters and story lines needing resolution, it became more about wrapping things up. IMO the best scene was with dragon after after John killed Dany. He probably couldn’t blast Targaryen John, and melted the iron throne instead, as if he realized that her fixation on ruling everything had killed her. So he picks her up and flies off, leaving the humans to sort things out.

Maybe we'll find out in 10 years when HBO hires JJ Abrams to fill in the holes, because you know he's done SUCH good work with Lost, Star Trek and Star Wars. He set the standard for dumb writing on the screen for the past generation.
