Default Disappointed in longevity of Snark tuners

I have two Snark tuners that I haven't used in a couple of years (I usually use the d'addario sound hole tuners). I took the batteries out when I stopped using them. I recently wanted to use one on a new guitar and now neither of them work, even with new batteries. Very disappointing.

I’ve had mine for years (oldest on 7+) and no issues with any of them as yet...

Yeah. I've had one for years. I just put a new battery in. It's bright again! It keeps going and going.....

I've never broken one and I've never had one not work when provided with a fresh battery. Ever since I was first introduced to TC Polytune tuners in 2016, those and their subsequent TC Unitune have become my main tuners, but I still have plenty of Snarks around and still use them.

So I'm a bit puzzled by your predicament, Paul. Do you live in a humid area? Maybe some ambient moisture in the air got to them.

I mean, I'm grasping at straws here, because I truly have no idea why they should have stopped working. There are several here that probably haven't seen any use since 2016, but when I've put fresh batteries in them they've worked fine.

Sorry I can't provide you with any corroborating experiences alongside your own.

I had the clips break frequently enough that I moved on to other tuner makers. I currently have a D'Addario tuner that works fine.

I found a solution for guitar tuners.

I bought this TC Electronic Polytune clip for $46

The I bought a pack of 10 replacement batteries for $7

I should have enough batteries to last 10+ years.

I have several Snark tuners.
Two have broken bases.
I used zip ties to repair them.

The only time that I have had a problem with the tuners not working is when I replace a battery and install it upside down.

You know, they've given me the $5.95 I've invested in them. The Reverb tuner is better.

Batteries could be backwards. Try flipping them over. Never know, worth a shot.

Great recommendation. Given that both Snarks stopped working with new batteries that could be it.

I sure like my D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Tuners. Never liked the Snark.

Take the eraser end of a pencil and wipe the battery contacts.

My 1969 VW bug with an automatic stick-shift (yes, you read that correctly) would stall out infrequently and doing this on the rotor and distributor cap contact points always solved the problem. I always kept a pencil in that car for this reason.

If that doesn't work, and they look corroded/dirty, use a file or sandpaper.

If that doesn't work, tap on it quite hard with a steel hammer (won't fix it but it'll make you feel better). Be safe, use safety glasses and gloves.

I have 2 Snarks and a Unitune and none of them have ever failed me. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I’m disappointed I can’t find mine. It’s got to be around here somewhere.

I can’t remember how I got it. I don’t remember buying it, so it must have been a gift from someone. Maybe Santa put it in my Christmas stocking a few years back. I have liked it and used it a lot more than I initially expected.
