dlowry--That's a sand filled leather bunny ear neck rest--5 pounds of bench top decadence! Someone should start a contest on who has the most decadent shop tool. A tool that you don't really need, costs too much, but you love to death! Thanks for viewing

Hi Mark,
Just stumbled across this thread this morning over breakfast - WOW! I love cocobolo as a tone wood and this guitar is just stunning. I like a lot of your aethestic choices and exquisite attention to detail. Would love to hear sound clips. Actually, I would love to play the darn thing, but I am 3,000 miles away...oh, well. Thanks for taking the time to share the process of building this beauty with us. Best, Jayne |

Thanks Fullfillingsoul. Sapwood is a choice. Kind of an organic center strip.
Thanks Jayne. Check back on the thread from time to time, I'm thinking of doing a road trip with this guitar and maybe you would like to play it.

Tuner Install
Hi
Here are some pics of setting up the tuners and a couple shots of the guitar mostly put together. Here's the tuner head with the tuners in. It isn't lit up yet under finish. I'm really happy with my new technique to get a tight fit on the truss rod cover. And here are two pics with the guitar all pieced together Thank-you for viewing!

Thanks Drew and mcoliver77!
Jayne & Solo, Thanks for your interest as well! I am planning to do a road trip with this guitar and I will PM you and anyone else interested as we get closer to finishing the guitar. I imagine this will happen right after the first of the year. Again, thanks everyone for following this build and your comments! I'll have more pics up soon on fretting. Mark

That's probably one of the prettiest builds I've seen on here!
Well done, I hope she plays as good as she looks. |

Thanks Joeval. I'm really happy with the response I'm getting to this build thread. The question of sound and playability can't be answered with pictures. That's why I've decided to put this guitar on the road so people have a chance to try it out and compare. I've been building guitars for over nine years now, but understanding how to make them sound good in a controllable way didn't start until almost four years ago, when I attended the Masters Voicing class with Ervin Somogyi. Since then, I have built upon what I learned, and believe my guitars sound as good as they look. As for playability, there are a number of standard features I offer that really help. I'll soon be putting up my fret work which includes the semi-hemispherical fret end dressing. This is very comfortable to play, and also offers more usable fret to the edge of the fretboard (plus it looks more finished). I make the necks by hand so I can easily adapt them to the player's preferrence. Certainly the collaboration process a hand builder has with his client allows for many adjustments to the player's style.
